When I talk with exporters, I'm amazed at how many people are using outdated versions of export forms or are unaware of changes to regulations that directly impact their international shipments. Too many companies rely on the same templates and rules that they were using 10 years ago. It's a recipe for disaster.
I hear stories of companies who are using invoices, packing lists and certificates of origin that don't meet current best practices for export forms. I've talked to more than one company that still uses the old NAFTA Certificate of Origin instead of the updated USMCA Certification of Origin, even though NAFTA went away in 2020. And some exporters are still giving their freight forwarder copies of the old Shipper's Export Declaration (SED) and expecting them to file through AES without all the required export information.
Fortunately, there's a better way.
